I Wouldn’t Qualify This As Dog Friendly

We booked this hotel based on the pet friendly listing. When I phoned the hotel to adjust the reservation to a pet friendly room I was told that my dog can only be in the room when one person is present. If we need to leave, for example such as a meal, the dog must vacate as well. This makes it impossible to grab a meal as a couple or family. Their policy is that pets cannot be left unattended, even if left in a kennel.
I have stayed in other hotels in Victoria and have never heard of this before. Unfortunately our reservation cannot be canceled, but I won’t return to this hotel again. This dog policy is too much of a hassle.
